Brown Advisory Elevates Shannon Pierce to Chief Financial Officer

She succeeds Dave Churchill who will continue to serve as Vice Chair and Senior Advisor

BALTIMORE, MD — Brown Advisory is pleased to announce the promotion of Shannon Pierce to Chief Financial Officer. She takes over for Dave Churchill, who joined the firm as CFO in 1997. Dave will continue to serve as Vice Chair and Senior Advisor at Brown Advisory.

Mike Hankin, President and CEO, reflects: “Dave has led every aspect of Brown Advisory’s financial and operational structure since 1997. He built the business platform when we went private in 1998, designed our equity ownership structure, and determined how to finance and operationalize every strategic initiative that we launched, every combination we undertook and every office we opened. The firm we are today—a first-rate team of almost 900 equity owners serving clients with complex needs around the world—is attributable in very large part to Dave. As clients, colleagues and shareholders, we are grateful for his contributions to our firm.”

Dave also served as Chief Operating Officer of Brown Advisory from 2013-2023, when Brien White assumed that role from him. Brien White joined Brown Advisory in 2010. His roles have included Portfolio Manager, Head of the Washington, D.C. office, and, most recently, Chief Operating Officer of the Private Client, Endowments and Foundation business.

Shannon Pierce joined Brown Advisory as a staff accountant in 2003, having previously served as a senior associate at KPMG. She has held her most recent position as Controller since 2014, working under the leadership of Dave Churchill. During her tenure, Shannon has led every accounting and finance function including financial planning, reporting and analysis, restructuring, shareholder relations, and mentoring a team of 25+ professionals. Shawn Mooney, who has been with Brown Advisory since 2010, has assumed the title of Controller from Shannon.

Mike Hankin comments: “With Shannon’s promotion, the firm’s clients and colleagues are in very good hands. Her 20-year career at the firm positions her well to take on responsibility for our financial stewardship. She has deep accounting, financial analysis and strategic planning expertise, and she is an expert in all things Brown Advisory.”

Reflecting on her new role, Shannon said: “I’ve had an opportunity to learn from the best for the past 20 years. My being elevated to this role is possible because Brown Advisory invests in and develops colleagues to take on leadership challenges. I’m excited to help lead the firm and our outstanding team into the future.”
